The Embrace of Fashion and Art; FASHION WEEK ISTANBUL PRESENTS ISTANBUL STATE OF MIND EXHIBITION

14-17 October 2021

A journey from the 1800s to present day Istanbul

With Fashion Week Istanbul presents

Istanbul State of Mind Exhibition

Fashion Week Istanbul presents Istanbul State of Mind exhibition, a special art selection in which different creative disciplines that influence fashion and are influenced by it come together for the first time in Turkey in that sense, will meet with art lovers between 14-17 October as part of Fashion Week Istanbul 2021. Kerimcan Güleryüz is the curator of the exhibition, Merve Tuna is the fashion director of the fashion integration side of the exhibition, Ali Taptık is the Theatrical Director responsible for the selection and performance of the literary texts, and Billur Turan is the Art Director/director of the set design.

Within the scope of Fashion Week Istanbul, Fashion Week Istanbul presents Istanbul State of Mind exhibition is getting ready to feature a special experience to be performed by theatrical artists, a fictive world structured around the ideas of home and street, presenting the collections of Turkish designers at the Likör Fabrikası (Liquor Factory) and Akaretler. While the visitors will bear witness to the “home” life in Istanbul with the special selection of the exhibition, which will be held in Akaretler with the house concept, another fictive world is designed at the Liquor Factory based on the street concept to keep the streets of Istanbul alive from the 1800s to the present day.

The exhibition will feature artworks carrying traces of Istanbul like paintings, photographs, videos and multimedia alongside theatrical and stage performances, and installations. In this project, curated by Kerimcan Güleryüz, the visitors of Fashion Week Istanbul presents Istanbul State of Mind Exhibition will not only witness the life in the city but also explore Istanbul from a different perspective, that of the artists’.

A cross section of an Istanbul Apartment

“An Istanbul Apartment” in Akaretler, designed as part of the Fashion Week Istanbul presents Istanbul State of Mind exhibition, is designed as a multi-layered exhibition. The exhibition, which invites art lovers to the homes of the residents of an Istanbul apartment, is designed by Empire and Onagöre. Presenting the latest products of fashion designers from Turkey in a special art selection, the exhibition brings contemporary artworks and young

theatre performers together with the audience on a same level stage by uniquely interpreting parts from important works of Turkish literature.

Fashion, which is nurtured by the city and its creative industries, will be presented with an original curation that’s far from being a static exhibition as it brings together interactive performances for the first time in the fields of contemporary art, performing arts, design, music and literature based on the concept of home in Akaretler. Curated only by Turkish household names in the fields of the arts, performing arts, design, and literature, the exhibition is also a trailblazer in a sense.

The show on stage can also be deemed as a rehearsal, which the visitors of the exhibition can personally tour as the actors wearing the designs of famous fashion designers at the reading rehearsals will be performing at certain times of the day, every day between October 14-17, in apartments numbered 25 and 27 in Akaretler. Fashion Week Istanbul presents Istanbul State of Mind exhibition, edited by Kerimcan Güleryüz, Billur Turan, Merve Tuna and Onagöre, brings together artists from different branches, today’s visual artists, fashion designers and performance artists.

In the Liquor Factory, designed based on the “street” concept, there is a setup organized in the form of a museum on the upper floor, where artwork on Istanbul are exhibited and on the lower floor, a journey through the streets of Istanbul from the 1800s to the present day is presented. At the entrance of the Liquor Factory, art lovers are greeted by a live painting and special pieces from the designers’ collections in a performative setup.

Fashion Week Istanbul has been supported by the Türkiye Promotion Group for the last 3 seasons and is run by a working group led by IHKIB, which includes representatives of MTD, IMA and IHKIB – that is, representatives from all areas of the fashion industry. FWI, which has shifted to the digital platform due to the pandemic and thus, has brought Turkish fashion design to the global fashion industry much faster and more effectively, has decided to bring the important names of every field touched by fashion to the global platform with a project that has not been realized until now. It is an extraordinary project where we will come together physically with both Turkish and foreign audiences – within the framework of the pandemic rules.

In the exhibition, in which artwork focusing on Istanbul are on display, everyone who is in love with Istanbul will re-embrace Istanbul, not the one they know and love but have forgotten about, an Istanbul that some have never known, but met and fell in love with.

Organized by the Istanbul Apparel Exporters Association (IHKIB), FWI is supported by the Türkiye Promotion Group (TTG) established by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) under the leadership of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Trade, and is carried out in cooperation with the Fashion Designers Association (MTD) and the Istanbul Fashion Academy (IMA).

Across the world, corona virus is out breaking very quickly as it is not only impacting the lives and health of the people but also almost every industry is getting impacted by this in many ways The manufacturing, the supply, the market everything. In short whole supply chain of most of the industries getting affected. Coming to the fashion industry, the effect of this deadly virus is not a good sign for the upcoming days.We all know the virus was originated from china and nowadays it is creating its dis-effects in counties like Italy, Japan, Egypt, Iran, U.S, and the U.K. Clearly the business and supply chain will obviously get disturbed in many aspects. The coronavirus outbreak is impacting the fashion’s industry in many ways like.

Discontinuity in the supply chain

Previously we discussed the virus is originated from China and most of the luxury brands have their textile manufacturing factories in china.Even estimation is that the china is covering up to one-third of the textile and clothing of across the globe. Just because of this virus the manufacturing of the raw material gets affected. In most of the manufacturing unit, the workers and the staff members are unable to work properly because the people are bound to avoid public places. The cities are under lockdown and health inspections are takin place on daily basis. This happened to result in plenty of workers and resources in manufacturing units.

This condition is the same in almost all industries related to fashion brands. The manufacturing units are unable to out their orders to the global market on time. This results in the delay in the supply of the fashion accessories to the inventory of top brands. And if the demand and completion get affected than the customers from across the globe will get detached from their trusted brands.

Delay in the summer collection

Disturbance in the supply chain directly impacts on the upcoming summer collections of almost every brand which will have to come in a few months. The top brands like Armani, Vogue, Dolce, Gabbana, etc will have to release their summer collection in a few months like every year. But because of this coronavirus outbreak is impacting the fashion’s Industry, the supply of the fashion products in market gets disturbed and the brands are bound to postpone the summer collections by one or more months. This thing is also affecting the holiday offers which truly will affect the overall sales and profitability of the particular brand.

Delay in summer collection directly hit the overall consumption and sales. The situation will be more problematic for the brands that have to supply directly to the retailers as they are in the contract with them to full fill their inventory by a particular date. So it will result in the delay of summer collection by almost one or more months by which is way too late for top fashion brands.

Cancellation/postpone of Fashion events

Fashion events play a very crucial role in the brandings of any top brand. The retailers and customers get aware and will be get updated for the upcoming collection of a particular brand. After the outbreak of corona virus, many fashion events get cancelled just because of the very low recently Green day announced that they will postpone their Asian tour just because of some health issues due to corona virus. Although some of the fashion designers doing their level best to deliver the fashion accessories on time to remain in continuity. In Paris, Fashion week models were seen wearing a mask to promote the outfits’ compatibility with the virus. Just like these events many other events will be cancelled or postponed. Cancellation of these events will directly impact on the public of the collection. Now most of the brands are bound to supply their products through online shops which are quite an effective approach to get in touch with their customers

Coronavirus crisis and the fashion Industry

Corona Virus Outbreak Impact on The Fashion IndustrySo the corona virus crisiss is affecting the overall supply chain of almost all industries. What happen next is, the manufacturing units are in loss and not able to generate much revenue because due to discontinuity in the supply to the vendor brands the overall profitability is impacted much harder. And the overall delay in the whole process affects the jobs or the employees who are involved in this industry. From the manufacturers end because of non-involvement of workers the companies are bound to rationalize the jobs. Also the supplier end and retailer all the departments are highly impacted. It seems that for the upcoming winter season the brands have to set up their manufacturing units in such areas where there is no thread of obviously it will be not easy for them but steps should be taken to get in the normal.  https://blog.styliafoe.com/corona-virus-outbreak-impact-on-the-fashion-industry/

READ MORE AND REGISTER HERE

CONTEXT

Internet, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence constitute the key technology drive for the future of fashion textile industry, permitting to create new business models for the whole supply chain.

In this workshop, we will report a novel fashion big data technology platform linking consumers’ needs and market demands with the manufacturing processes. This platform will enable the development of new business models for retailers (B2C) and business partners in the supply chain (B2B).

You will have the opportunities to learn about the latest technological innovations and how to develop your business with big data, establish new collaborations and ultimately define recommendations for the future funded research

ABSTRACT

The textile and clothing industry still occupy a crucial position in the manufacturing sector in Europe.

However, this industrial sector is challenged by a drastic reduction in Europe due to relocation to countries outside the EU with cheaper labour costs, leading to the reduction of manufacturing in Europe and leaving facilities as well as data and knowledge unexploited.

Supply chains in the EU are still too weak when facing international competition due to low levels of communication and cooperation between the concerned actors and lack of efficient tools for quick access to their target consumers. And the existing digital platforms can only process relatively simple interactions, in which B2B (interactions of professionals) and B2C (shopping with consumers) models have not been systematically integrated.

The FBD_BModel project, funded by the European Commission, aims at creating a digital technology platform for enabling small series innovative high value fashion and functional garments manufacturing and e-commerce, through a fully connected and data-driven local supply chain in the EU, to meet consumer’s personalized needs in terms of fashion and functional performances.

Based on this platform, a novel B2B2C business model will be built, helpful for creating customized textile production in Europe, promoting material innovations of European SMEs with connected professional networks, and preserving and updating professional knowledge in Europe.

FBD_BModel Consortium will meet academic and industrial stakeholders, to discuss research results and future developments for the development of novel supply chains supporting innovative services in fashion industry.

TomboyX has single-handedly changed my underwear standards forever with its comfortable, gender-inclusive styles

picks disclaimer banner

TomboyX reviewTomboyX/Facebook
  • TomboyX strives to make underwear for everyone, regardless of their size or gender.
  • Like WildfangTomboyX has adapted traditionally masculine offerings for women’s bodies.
  • Their underwear is eco-friendly and sweatshop-free.
  • Their boyshorts, my favorite style, range in price from $18-$30 per pair.

TomboyX has been working to improve the inclusivity of the underwear industry since 2012.

Partners in both life and business, Fran Dunaway and Naomi Gonzalez set out to fill a unique hole in the market — “ underwear that any body could feel comfortable in, regardless of where they fell on the size or gender spectrum.”

A few months ago, Business Insider featured Wildfang, a brand that is designing masculine-style clothing tailored for women’s bodies. TomboyX is the underwear equivalent. The company took masculine-style underwear like trunks and boxer briefs and adapted them for women’s bodies, opening up underwear possibilities for those whose tastes fall outside traditional feminine styles.

TomboyX makes boxer briefs and trunks that maintain a masculine aesthetic while removing the excess fabric that often comes standard with men’s underwear to accommodate a … certain anatomy. This leads to a distinctly sleeker silhouette without the excess bulk that often leads to bunching or discomfort under tighter clothing.

I’ve worn men’s trunks or boxer briefs for the better part of my adult life, so I had grown used to the design shortcomings as a necessary evil to get the style I wanted. When I first heard about TomboyX, I jumped at the chance to try them. Initially, I went with its 4.5-inch trunks that, based on their online photos, seemed to be the closest option to the underwear I was used to wearing. I found them to be a little long for me, so I tried its slightly shorter option, the boy shorts, and I knew right away I’d found something here. When I tried them on, I wasn’t quite used to the fabric laying flush against my body, so it was a little strange at first. But after a few minutes I was totally used to it, and once I put pants on, I didn’t think another thought about my underwear that day, which is the ultimate goal, isn’t it?

TomboyX offers a wide range of styles, from 9-inch boxer briefs that come down to the mid-thigh all the way to more feminine styles such as bikinis and thongs. Size inclusivity is an unflinching tenant of the brand, so every item is offered in sizes from XS to 4X. What’s more is all its products are sweatshop-free and produced by workers that earn a living wage.

Additionally, TomboyX strives to be eco-friendly, with many of its products certified Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex, an international organization whose strict specifications ensure the human-ecological safety of textiles. This certification ensures limited levels of harmful chemicals in the fabric, which, if you ask me, is incredibly reassuring given underwear fabric’s proximity to sensitive areas.

TomboyX underwearTomboyX/Facebook

Of the fabric options offered — a basic cotton, MicroModal, and Active Drirelease — the cotton is my favorite (I’m not fancy). But the Active Drirelease is great if you’re an athlete or an avid gym-goer. I am neither, so they’re just another pair of underwear for me. The specialized fabric is sweat-resistant and moisture-wicking and has reinforced seams that will stand up to lots of stretch and movement. The MicroModals are criminally soft, and a bit lighter than the cotton ones, but I find them to be less breathable.

The cotton pairs feel the sturdiest to me, and while they’re not as soft as the MicroModal or as technologically advanced as the Active Drirelease, they are a bit less expensive. The cotton boyshorts run $23 per pair for solid colors or $25 for patterned pairs, the MicroModal boyshorts run $30 for solid colors or $32 for patterned pairs, and the Active Drirelease boyshorts run $30 for solid colors (no funky patterns yet in Active Drirelease). If that’s a bit too pricey, the also offer three-packs in basic colors from $42.

In my experience, none of the three fabric styles ride up at all.

With every other brand of trunk or boxer brief I’ve worn, it’s been a constant battle of trying to discreetly tug my underwear down to unbunch them. Imagine picking a wedgie, but with a higher degree of difficulty. TomboyX has managed to eliminate that problem entirely, at least in the boyshorts style I tried.

TomboyX brasTomboyX/Facebook

Naturally, TomboyX hasn’t abandoned underwear’s favorite companion — the bra. It offers four styles — two that mimic traditional sports bras in aesthetic and two more feminine bralettes. I tried the Essentials Soft Bra, one of the sports-bra styles, and while it was extremely comfy, it didn’t offer much support, so it wasn’t quite right for me. I prefer something with a little more compression, but my partner loves it as a casual lounge-around option or for wearing under T-shirts.

If you’re looking for more masculine style underwear, but want a sleeker aesthetic than traditional men’s underwear, TomboyX has finally answered your (and my) prayers.

Plus, you get the added benefits of undies that are eco-friendly, size inclusive, socially responsible — and most importantly, incredibly comfy. TomboyX checks all the boxes as the type of brand I love to support, and it’s single-handedly changed my underwear standards forever.
